Tell me more about camp

  • Campers range in age from 3 to 13. Our three and four year old campers attend half day sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. Our campers 5 to 13 years of age attend full-day sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Parents may request that their camper attend for one, two, or three weeks of camp. However, in order to provide our program for as many children as possible, we may not be able to schedule a child for all three weeks. Selection of campers to participate will be made by PTN's camp coordinators. Current and past PTN clients are given first priority. Parents will be notified of their child's acceptance to the program no later than the end of May.

  • There is a steady rotation of fun and creative activities including arts and crafts, sports, dance, games, water play, special events (at least one per week), social interaction, and music.

  • Children are assigned to a camp group with names such as Golden Guppies or Red Robins, with children close to their age. Camp Escapades has generally had 10-13 groups, all of which include children with special needs, as well as typically developing siblings and friends. Many families have appreciated the opportunity to send their children who have speical needs to Camp Escapades alongside the child's siblings so they can all participate in activities and enjoy a positive camp experience together.

  • Each group is led by a trained therapist or teacher, as well as additional professionals and counselors. Camp Escapades also includes counselors-in-training, and many youth volunteers.

What weeks will camp be offered this year?
Camp Escapades will be offered August 2nd-20th.

Can I register for camp online?
On-line registration will be available in mid-April for Camp Escapades 2010.

Is my child eligible to attend camp?
In order to make camp a fun and safe experience for all children, your child must be able to do the following without showing agressive or unsafe behaviors. Please note that camp coordination team reserves the right to request that a family member or 1:1 assistant remain with the child if he or she is unable to meet the criteria listed below:

  • Participate in group activities
  • Remain in a group without running away
  • Attend to activities for at least 10 to 15 minutes
  • Transition from one activity to the next with minimal assistance
  • Display no aggressive behaviors (such as hitting, biting, scratching, etc.)

Please note that children with mobility challenges are welcome at camp. A 1:1 assistant or family member must accompany any camper who is in need of assistance for feeding, medication, bathroom use or mobility.

Will my child be receiving therapy at Camp Escapades?
Although most camp groups and activities are led by a pediatric therapist, the focus of camp is not treatment. Camp Escapades' objective is for children of all abilities to enjoy a camp experience as opposed to meeting treatment goals. Therapy treatment and daily notes will not be provided. Group leaders will be present at all times to facilitate a child's participation, modifying or adapting the situation/activity as needed.

How do I pay for camp?
In the past, Regional Centers have provided funding for eligible children to attend some summer camp programs, including Camp Escapades. Due to changes in the California state budget, the information provided to Pediatric Therapy Network at this time indicates that the Regional Centers will most likely not provide funding this year. If your child is a client of the regional center, please contact your case-worker for further information. If you are planning to pay privately, you will be required to make a non-refundable deposit (that will later be applied to camp fee) of $50.00 per week for each child enrolled in order to secure a place at camp. The deposit is due by May 31st. You may make payments at anytime toward your camp fees but the balance must be paid in full by June 30th.

What are the fees for camp?
Children may register for camp for one, two or three weeks of camp. Fees per week are as follows:

  • Full day rate (5-13 years-old):$475/week
  • Half day rate (3&4 years-old only):$275/week

If your child has siblings, they are entitled to a discount. Fees per week for additional children are as follow:
  • Full day rate (5-13 years-old):$300/week

Will scholarships be available?
PTN is fundraising to make scholarships available for children whose families exhibit financial need and are unable to fully cover the costs of camp. Scholarship selection will be based on household income and specific financial criteria. All children MUST be registered online for camp prior to submitting a scholarship application. Camp registration confirmation is pending scholarship approval. Deadline for scholarship applications is May 15, 2010. Scholarship applicants will be contacted with further information after June 15th. If you want to secure a guaranteed spot at camp, you will need to pay the $50 deposit for each week you are fully paying privately. Please click to fill out and submit a scholarship application for Camp 2010.

Where is camp located?

Is there a parent orientation?
Yes, a parent orientation meeting will be held at Pediatric Therapy Network's clinic a few weeks before camp for all parents of confirmed campers. It is strongly recommended that you attend this meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to provide general camp information, pick up your camper(s) t-shirts, complete any outstanding paper work and answer your questions. This meeting will prepare you and your child for a fun-filled and safe summer camp experience. Click on the information below and bring the documents with you to orientation.
