Buddy Club is a social skills and community integration program for children between the ages of 4-12 years old. This program is designed to create the opportunity for positive peer interactions and successful community integration experiences. Children who demonstrate the following challenges would benefit from our Buddy Club program:
Buddy Club meets once per week at our Clubhouse or venues in the community such as parks, libraries, bowling alleys, recreational centers and more. The children participate in small peer groups of generally 3 to 6 that are formed by age and ability. These groups are given personalized attention by a team of pediatric occupational therapists, physical therapists or speech and language pathologists trained in social skills. Our therapists may also have experience or training in Social Thinking, DIR/Floortime, Sensory Integration, and play therapy. The children participate in 2 hours of fun-filled activities which focus on a curriculum of specific social skills including:
Parent collaboration and education is provided through weekly 15 minute parent meetings and triannual 2 hour parent meetings along with social stories and viewing of video clips from Buddy Club sessions. Our therapists also provide "coached" snacks and play dates with parents to help them gain confidence, learn what strategies and community venues are successful for their child, and learn about group management.
Buddy Club is excited to again be offering a 4 year old group, specifically designed for this age group. The group will run similarly to a regular Buddy Club group, but will spend more time in the Clubhouse and will address age-appropriate skills related to play development, peer awareness, and the basic building blocks of social skills such as personal space, body language and sharing.
