Pediatric Therapy Network's widely popular Respite Rendezvous program is offered to families that participate in Leaps & Bounds and is directed by PTN social worker, Kimberlee Elliott, MSW. Respite events are offered the last Saturday evening (5:00 - 9:00 p.m.) of each month and help provide parents and guardians with time for themselves while their children are in a safe and fun environment. After the children arrive to respite, they are engaged in age-appropriate fun activities that integrate physical, occupational, speech/language therapy and social skills. PTN therapists, teachers, teacher assistants and community volunteers from local high schools and other organizations assists the children at the various play stations with arts and crafts, music, short plays, rock climbing and other forms of exploratory play. As the children take a break from the activities, they are provided healthy snacks, water and juice as the older siblings (up to age 12) socialize with their peers. The children are also at times treated to a special event such as a magic show or other fun entertainment.
Here are just a few of the comments parents have made about Respite Rendezvous:
Respite Rendezvous also has benefited from the many volunteers from various organizations and schools that have contributed their time so generously to play and enjoy an evening with some of PTN's youngest clients.
